Some months back, I received an assignment (2020 update: OK, full disclosure … this was in 2011, and the assignment was from my therapist): “Write down 50 things that bring you joy. Then do a few of those things each and every day.”

Soon thereafter I sat at Starbucks and started writing down my joy triggers but never made it to 50. (Despite decades of counting practice, I had never realized how big the number 50 is!)

Today, August 26, 2011, I am giving myself a variation on her assignment. For each of the next 50 days I will report at least one thing that brings me joy.
